I actually have two favorite games from the 90s: Sonic the Hedgehog and GoldenEye.
The first time I played Sonic was '92 or '93 and still had an nes at the time and everything about Sonic blew me away! The graphics, color palettes, music, game play were simply awesome.
GoldenEye is just one of the best shooters made and the game was loaded with great multiplayer modes, various difficult levels which unlocked additional missions and cheat codes. I already spent countless hours playing GoldenEye then I got a Gameshark and added more cheats to my fun.

One of the coolest experiences that I had in the 90's was with Shenmue. That game was just completely entrancing with how real the world felt. Everything felt so unscripted and unique.
Aside from a lame sequel, I can't believe that no other game like this has emerged.
I really have to go back and play that game again...

Gotta agree on Shenmue. The sheer amount of material for the time was amazing. There really weren't any other games like it on consoles at the time.

Shenmue rings a bell. Was that on the dreamcast? If so, maybe I'll pick it up some day. I got a dreamcast when they were basically giving them away and all I had were sports games and crazy taxi games. Never had an action game.
